Operations using fractions, percentages, decimals and integers.

In Maths we have been learning to: Understand operations using fractions, percentages, decimals and integers.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Extended Abstract assessment task - links to the answer sheet and the activity sheet.

Something that challenged me during this unit of learning was the lazier blazer task because you had to make fractions out of graphs.
My next step is to continue to apply these strategies to real life/ problem solving situations.

Reading - Text Composition

In reading we have been learning to….
recognise the way words, sentences and paragraphs are put together (eg sentences that express cause and effect) and use this knowledge to understand complicated texts.

Here is a link to our online modelling book

These documents show evidence of my learning during this unit:

Defining parts of speech
Types of sentences
Analyzing paragraph construction
Explain the relationship between components of texts.
Complex text analysis

My Next Step: Is to continue to apply this new knowledge of parts of texts, to help me make sense of increasingly complicated text types.

kapa haka #7 excellence 2017

today we started as per usual with ka waiata we did not sing as well as we normally do I think it was just a bad day well at least I hope so after that we sang some more warm up songs. Then we sung aotearoa without seeing the lyrics. After that we went over the lyrics to the song we learnt last week.

I showed the value of community by going to kapa haka on time.
I showed leadership by listening to the lyrics and following them carefully.

kapahaka #5 excellence

Today was kapa Haka and we started off by singing our main waiata which is Ka waiata. We sing this song with pride because its one of our main songs and we all like it and it is kind of like our school song because all our school knows it and sings it lots of the time. We then sang a new song that the teachers learnt when they went to the marae on the teacher only day. We then practiced out actions to haerie mai and then we finished.

I showed respect by singing all the songs with pride.

I showed leadership by helping the younger kids remember the actions.

kapahaka #4 excellence cando

Today we did a performance in the assembly. I was quite nervous as I do not like performing in front of people let alone performing and being in the front row! it was very uncomfortable as I get muddled up when I do the actions the songs we did were ka waiata and hairemai after that we got asked if we would stay up the front and do tai tapu as I know the actions very well I did this no problem.

I showed excellence by going outside of my comfort zone.

I showed leadership by getting involved.

kapa haka #3 excellence 2017

Today I met with the kapa haka after morning tea and we got told that we were doing a performance that day but we were only doing two songs and they were Tai tapu and haerie mai in I was quite scared because i'm in the front row and i'm not very confident with the actions. We went over and over the actions until everyone knew them after that I thought that I knew them well.

I showed  respect by working on the actions.
I showed leadership by being quiet and role modeling to others.

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

Year 9/10: I can read in different ways to find and/or understand information that that is not immediately easy to access or is not organised in familiar ways.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Describe Map One

Describe map Two

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.

Careers Education C.V. Writing

In CAREERS EDUCATION we have been learning to write a skills based Curriculum Vitae.
A skills based C.V. focuses more on the skills that we have,  rather than our work history.
Here is a link to our online Modelling Book that shows the process we have followed.
Three things that I have learned about writing a Curriculum Vitae are:
That you don't have to do it about your work experience
It has to be quite long
That you can to add skills that might not have to do with the job
Here is a link to my Skills based Curriculum Vitae.

kapa haka #2 excellence 2017

Today was kapa Haka. We firstly went and took our shoes off (as normal) and went to sit down on the hall floor ready to listen and learn new actions and songs! we found out that we are going to do a performance for our open afternoon we are going to open it we get to spend 15 mins doing it and we are going to do five songs. We then practiced more new words for a song there is a part that the boys were meant to sing and matua was going though it with them and none of them were singing it so he told us(the girls) to try and we did it really well so then he told them to try it again they sang it but just not as good as us . We then practiced Ka waiata because we all love and all sing in our classes.
I showed respect by trying the actions as best I could.
I showed leadership by showing good banter is good

home learning challenge #2 2017 exellence

For this home learning challenge I went to three high school open nights I went to riccarton,  hillmorton and lincoln. they were all options at the start but when I went to them I didn't think lincoln suited me so I won't be going there but I don't know what to do with riccarton and hillmorton I really like them both so if I don't get into riccarton it will make my decision way easier because then I wont have to decide the hillmorton one was at the night time the lincoln one was before the riccarton one in the afternoon and the riccarton one was at night time but for the riccarton one we had to book in to get a tou where as the others you didn't have to.
I showed leadership by knowing what my future will be.
I showed respect by not saying that lincoln high wasn't as good as the hillmorton to everyone else there its a good school but just doesn't suit me.

home learning challenge #1 2017 excellence

For this home learning challenge I did the 40 hour famine for this I did no internet it was quite hard because I am usually on my devise for the past time and to keep me  from being bored. I also use it for my blog posts and to catch up on any work I am running late on. I raised 20 dollars and I got that from my mum, dad and my brother.
I showed leadership by role modeling to others to help people in need.
I showed respect by respecting the people that don't have what we have and that are not very lucky.

key leadership role excellence #1 2017

Today the leaders had a meeting in our classroom through morning tea, we usually have meetings just through our eating time (we eat in the meeting still). We mainly talked about the trip we are going on to the city council in a couple weeks and I am very excited about going on the trip because only the leaders are going and it sounds like it will be really fun we are going to go on a public bus to get there! I showed respect by listening to some suggestions of what we are going to eat and outting in my own. I showed leadership by respecting everyones opinion

kapa haka excellence #1 2017

On Friday we had kapa Haka and we meet as a group every Friday in the hall to practice our performances and songs and actions. We started of by taking off our shoes and putting them in the hall and then going and sitting down in our performance lines in the hall quietly but some of the younger kids were quite loud. after that we  started singing our main song which is called Ka Waiata and that sounded really great! Next we practiced new  actions to a new song and focused on learning the actions and doing them without Matuas help it was quite hard as I keep getting muddled up but I persevered. I showed  respect by persevering and trying to do the actions . I showed leadership by being quiet and role modeling it to others.

excellence key leadership role #3 2017

Today all the leaders had a meeting with Mr Ladbrook because some of the leaders (me and some others)  still haven't got our merit badges and Mr ladbrook was just reminding us what we needed to do for our blog posts and home learning challenges and stuff like that. We also talked about how the house captains are sometimes forgetting to put out the flags and then bring them back inside after school and also forgetting to but out the bins out in the morning and bringing them back in, so we made a solution some of the house captain said that we weren't doing enough so  I said tat I would try to be more. I showed excellence by agreeing to do more and trying to be fair and I showed leadership by turning up to the meeting and trying my best to be a good leader for the whole school.

key leadership role blog post #2 excellence 2017

On Monday the 29 of May all of the student leaders went to the city centre. We went by bus and we left school at 8:30 to get to the city council building about 9:00. Then we got there and met a city council tour guide that told us about what they do, they organise events, fix roads, look after any playgrounds and make decisions about where any buildings go or overall decisions. After that we were talking about how many many people there are in the city council and the different groups in the council, there are seven different groups. After that we got in to groups of three and met with someone that works there and they told us about their job/career. I met with a worker her name was Deb and she is a roading designer she can figure out where to dig in a road and she can design signs to put on the road and on her computer she can click a button and that shows her where all the water supply and wires things like that are under the ground.  After that we went for lunch to huchi huchi I ha…

reason with liner proportions maths group

National Standard 1: Combine simple proportions to work out what parts the whole is made up in a unit of 10 like 3 yellow with 7 blue, 5 yellow with 5 blue, 4 yellow with 6 blue. Say what the fraction and percentage of each stack is for yellow and blue.
2.National Standard 2: - Combine proportions to work out what parts the whole is made up of using non-multiple of 10 like 8 yellow:5 blue:4 white with 11 yellow:11 blue:11 white (19:16:15 and 38%:32%:30%)
3. National Standard 3: - Order fractions with unlike denominators by finding a common denominator
My evidence:  The assessment task
My next step is: know how to work out the maths quicker and remember how to do it.

Term 1 Novel Study

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel see,ya simon

I found this novel interesting and sad because you were on the edge of your seat but then the end becomes sad.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference. Link to Explain Map Link to Inference Map

National Standard this covers Year 9/10 Standard I can monitor my understanding as it develops during my reading, and adjust my strategies to address any comprehension problems Eg: If I don’t understand a passage I have read I can re-read it, read-on, use pictures or diagrams, or explore the meaning of some of the vocabulary. I can use strategies to analyse ideas and information and to reflect critically on the meaning I am gaining from my read…
