home learning challenge #5

For this home learning challenge for this home learning challenge I learnt how to play the trumpet because I have not played it before and I also learnt how to play a song called The little F and G march.
you only have to notes to play and  you have to hold the notes for awhile. the thing that I most enjoyed about it was  playing a new instrument.

home learning challenge #4 A10.

My home learning challenge is
A10. Volunteer at a local place or help your neighbours e.g wash an elderly neighbour’s windows etc
for this I washed my grandma's car I used...       A window washer broom ,car wash soap ,water , a cloth ,a sponge and a tap/hose . It took me about half an hour.

40 book challenge term 1 review

The story is about a girl called zoe she lives in an ugly flat building that leans and is falling apart her mom died and her dad is miserable and she has a stepmom that hates her and she hates just as much. her name is sheila and she will do anything to get herself some prawn cocktail crisps. There is a bully that spits on her every day on her way to school she lives in the same flat building but she doesn't know where little does she know she lives quite near!!!

Key leadership role #5

Today I was at my leadership meeting and we were talking about the house games that we are going to do and the house bin challenges we found who the winner is but that is a secret for now. Then we were talking about the badges and who got them because we needed to have them by the end of the term and I haven't yet.

I showed respect by not answering back to the teacher .

Key leadership role #4

This week I was putting the flags out and I was thinking that on Thursday it would be the last day of the term so I wouldn't do it any more for two weeks so on Thursday when I finnished putting them out I shut the door for where we got them from and went back to class.

I showed respect by doing the flags every day.

In Current Events I covered these topics: The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council. Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan Christchurch Earth Memorial The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.
My favourite topic was the nga puna wai sports facility because it is near here and I would be able to use it so it felt like I was helping the community

Term 1 Novel Study

Term 1 Novel Study

This term I have been reading and studying the novel see,ya simon

I found this novel interesting and sad because you were on the edge of your seat but then the end becomes sad.

During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference. At teach today I was still drawing on my pattern. when I had finished that mr bowers said that we could pocker burn a pattern onto our own speaker. Then he said that he is going to do the holes into where our speakers go the next thing we did was cutting the wires for our speaker.

I showed excellence by doing what mr bowers said when he said.

Today at teach we did the roll then we did some more paper work we were drawing what we were making continued to sand our pieces of wood by using sand paper and a small piece of wood and sanding on no angle then we sanded the edges after that we were gluing the wood together after that it was time to pack up I was brushing the wood dust and everything into a pile but then I ended up hovering the pile up as well.

I showed respect by helping pack up the room.

Today I did kapa haka and we started by warming up with ka waiata and then we practiced haere mai. Then we went through it again and the teachers said that there was meant to be a girl who was meant to introduce the song they say/sing haere mai toru pha no one put there hands up so then I did so I got to do it but then the first time I tried it I sang it to sharp so then I had to try again then I did it good.

I showed Excellence by putting my hand up to try new things.

Today I did kapa haka and we started by warming up with ka waiata and then we started to learn The song that we learnt last week and we learnt the actions to it we learnt the actions to it by going over and over them again. we are really good at it all now and I think that we are going to do this very well throughout the year.

I showed excellence because I was trying my best to remember the actions.

Today I did kapa haka and we started by warming up with ka waiata and then we started to learn a new song that we have done in the past which is haere mai we started by learning all the words by going over and over them again. I know the words really well because I was part of the people that has done it before next we made changes to the song by how high or low we were singing it.

I showed excellence because I already new the song but I still sang it.

I thought my mum how to use gmail because she needed to send something to someone and didn't know how to so I helped her to do that and a taught her to make folders for mail and delete mail and everything that I know how to do. Then I asked her if there was anything else she wanted help with and she did not

I went with my family (mum dad grandma bother and I ) to sparks in the park it was really fun and I enjoyed it we brought blankets and chairs we also brought some snacks but we got dinner there from the noddle night market and i got pad thai it was delicious and the songs were good and we didn't plan to but we met some of our friends there and that was nice and rowan met all of his friends there my favorite part were the fireworks and going with my family here are some pictures

leadership meeting #3 merit

Since I am a house captain it is part of my duty to put out the flags and put out the house color bins, at the moment rata is in the lead but even in the rain we have to put out the flags and bring them in but for this term I am on putting them out and I sometimes have to help the people that bring them in because some people are away or they are too busy to do them. so I help but I think as a group of house captains we are doing a great job at doing our role and dressing up in our house colours and I think that kowhai is the best but don't tell anyone that shh.

 I showed active thinker by doing my role and having fun when I do it.

Today at teach we were cutting our pieces of wood so that we can start to make them first mr bower cut every ones who was having a cube then he cut any one that was having something else  which was charlotte that was having hexagon and amber that wanted hers like a pizza shape and m4e and I wanted to have a diamond. then we had to sand them where he cut them so that they stick together easier

I showed excellence by  waiting my turn to get mine cut.

today was the day that we started planning what we were going to make and we were going to make speakerboxx I couldn't think of what to make but the Mr bowers gave us some ideas and them every body made cubes and the most people that made cubes made a die (dice )but I didn't want t be the same as everyone else so i chose to make a diamond  and it is going to have blue and white stripes on it with a cool S on it because my name is Sophie

I showed excellence by being myself and not doing the same as everybody else is .

Today was the first time going to teach for 2017 and with new year sevens I found out that I am in a group with... Me, Charlotte l ,Amber, Crystal, Jade, Elizabeth, Annable, Jacob, Hussain, Logan p, Oleg, Scott, Daniel and Nicholas then we found out that we are going to be in wood work I like being in wood work first because its the only one where everyone makes the same thing so everyone would tell you whet they are making and then it wouldn't be a surprize to you anymore.

I showed excellence by not moaning that I had not gotten all of my friends in my group.

My next step is to continue to apply my knowledge of statistics and probability in a variety of real world situations and contexts.

My leadership article

In writing I have been learning to: use all basic punctuation independently attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focussing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

Games that need minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment. Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

My Strengths. Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are listening to the instructions because you need to know them to play

My Next Steps. Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are knowing to stop at the end  Because I like playing the games

Today I did kapa haka and we started by warming up with ka waiata and then we tried to sing a fun song witch was aotearoa but we new the start really well then after the course we didn't really know the rest.then we did ka waiata and they teachers said that we were going to change it so that they are going to do echos and the people that are kind of on the end have to do it and im in the last line that does it so im have to do echos now

I showed excellence because I didn't moan that I had to do echos .

leadership meeting #2 merit

Today in my leadership meeting all the house captains had to start making a presentation to show in the assembly. The kowhai house captains were explaining about how you can win and how many house points you can get for winning. The rata house captains were explaining Where the bins are & when are we  starting?. The miro house captains were explaining what is the bin challenge . The rimu house captains were  explaining what the rules are.

I showed active thinker by thinking of this idea with the other house captains

kapa Haka #1 merit

Today in kapa haka it is the first session and we started off by singing a few songs and then we made lines for 2017  I am in the front line about seventh from the left at the end all the people that were in kapa haka last year stayed behind and they had to do a performance at the cultural day Assembly and I got to do long poi but I only had 4 days to learn how to do it and my favourite one was the crisis cross.

I showed exelance because I learn how to do the poi in four day and I was quite proud of my self for doing it

Use factors multiples and powers, including square roots.

In Maths we have been learning:
Divisibility rules up to 10.
Simple powers to 10.
Square roots of perfect squares.
Common factors of numbers to 100, including highest common factor.
Least common multiples of numbers to 100.

leadership meting #1 can do

whilst on my in the leaders meeting we were talking about how we could make a difference and, we watched two videos talking to us on what leaders need to do to become a good leader and we made a plan on something to do like an activity all the house captains got together and planned to do an activity to help clean up the school and the first house to fill up their bin wins house points.
